Together we’ll enjoy a balance of Islamic lectures, workshops, prayers, dhikr, and plenty of outdoor activities for all ages, including archery, hiking, sports, and games.
The Dar al Islam campus sits in a breathtaking, remote corner of the New Mexico desert. Its rugged beauty makes it the perfect setting to unplug from daily distractions and reconnect with faith, family, and nature.
📵 No Internet. No constant notifications.
Because of its remoteness, Dar al Islam has no internet and very limited cell service. This is intentional — it allows us to leave behind the noise of phones, tablets, and laptops, and instead immerse ourselves in our faith, our families, and our retreat community.
Friday Evening
We’ll arrive, check in, share dinner, and settle in for the weekend.
Saturday & Sunday
These days will be full of programs for every age: inspiring talks, family workshops, outdoor activities, and time for reflection. Whether you want to engage deeply, spend time alone, or socialize with other families, the retreat offers the space to do so.
Monday Morning
After breakfast together, we’ll say our goodbyes. On your way home, we encourage you to explore the natural beauty and history of New Mexico.
Abiquiu sits at 6,000 ft elevation. Late summer brings warm mornings, dramatic afternoon skies, and cool desert nights. Expect daytime highs in the 60s, evenings in the 40s–50s. The air is dry, so hydration is key.
At night, the desert sky opens into a canopy of stars — a reminder of Allah’s creation and a perfect setting for reflection.
We’ll provide meals, but please bring the essentials to keep you comfortable and prepared:
Quran
Towel & flashlight
Sunglasses, sunscreen, bug repellent, lip balm, lotion
Water bottle (a must!)
Sturdy outdoor shoes & sandals for indoors/showers
Jacket or sweater (desert nights are cool)
Hat, notebook & pen
Phones/camera (for photos, not scrolling!)
For parents with infants: please bring your own portable sleeper or playpen, along with everything needed for feeding, cleaning, clothing, and comfort.
For children ages 3 and under, childcare is available at $10/hour (cash only).
This retreat is more than just a getaway — it’s a chance to strengthen faith, build family memories, and experience the beauty of Dar al Islam together.
